How States Promote Lead Screening and Treatment

Across the country, states use a variety of strategies to promote lead screening and treatment for children and pregnant women. Elevated blood lead levels increase the risk of damage to the brain and nervous system, slow growth, and development, and can cause learning, behavior, hearing, and speech problems.
