State Quality Improvement Partnership Toolbox

It is widely recognized that many patients in the United States, even those with health insurance, do not receive appropriate, evidence-based health care. Many states recognize a significant opportunity and need to improve health care quality not only to improve individual care experiences but also to contain costs, expand access, improve population health, and improve health system performance. Given the complexity and fragmentation of the current health care system, with multiple payers, providers, and systems of care, states recognize they must collaborate with the private sector, as well as across agencies and branches of government, to improve system performance.

About the toolbox

This electronic toolbox contains resources collected as part of a NASHP project supported by the Commonwealth Fund that identified ten leading state quality improvement partnerships – interrelated broad-based partnerships, mostly with public and private sector representation, which have long-term, statewide, systemic quality improvement strategic intent, and transparent agendas.  The resources contained in this toolbox are organized by both state and content area.

This toolbox includes:

•  Brief introductions to the major issues in developing a quality improvement partnership;

•  Descriptions of the ten leading partnerships included in NASHP’s project;

•  Resources collected from partnerships and partners during the project, including: website links, reports, fact sheets, and links to legislation; and

•  Links to relevant NASHP resources

This toolbox is intended to:

•  Provide a central location to learn about and access resources related to ten leading public-private and interagency partnerships dedicated to quality improvement; and

•  Inform efforts to create new or strengthen existing partnerships that span multiple state agencies and/or bring together the private and public sectors to improve quality of care.

Relevant NASHP resources

NASHP produced two publications about state quality improvement partnerships; access those publications from this toolbox by clicking on “NASHP Publications” on the left.

NASHP has created the State Quality Improvement Partnership Discussion Forum, a private E-Community to support state interagency and public-private partnerships dedicated to developing and coordinating strategic agendas to improve health care quality.   The discussion forum enables state quality improvement partnership participants from across the country to communicate directly with each other.  To join or access the discussion forum from this toolbox click on “State Quality Improvement Forum” on the left.
