In February of 2009, President Obama signed legislation reauthorizing the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and financing CHIP through 2013. The Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA) of 2009 creates many new tools and opportunities as well as some new requirements for CHIP and Medicaid programs. CHIPRA provisions include increased funding, new outreach and enrollment opportunities, new quality tool and much more. NASHP is assisting states with implementing these new provisions, and working to support federal-state dialogue and partnership efforts to utilize CHIPRA’s provisions effectively to improve children’s coverage.
