Alice Weiss, Program Director

Alice Weiss joined NASHP in October 2007 and is the deputy director for Maximizing Enrollment for Kids, a national initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that will assist states in their efforts to increase enrollment of eligible uninsured children in public health coverage programs. Alice also contributes to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), promoting health coverage for all children, and health reform.  Alice comes to NASHP from the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, where she was Health Counsel for Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT), with primary responsibility for Medicaid, SCHIP, and private health insurance coverage issues.  During her tenure at Finance, Alice helped write the bipartisan CHIP Reauthorization Act, Hurricane Katrina health relief legislation, and the Indian Health Care Improvement Act.  Alice has also served as the director of health policy for the National Partnership for Women & Families and as a legislative and policy advisor on ERISA-regulated private employer-sponsored health coverage for the U.S. Department of Labor.  She received her BA from Haverford College and her JD from Northeastern University Law School.
