Jane Beyer is Senior Counsel, Democratic Caucus Staff, Washington State House of Representatives. From 1988 through 1994, and since January 1999, Jane has been a staff attorney for the Washington State House of Representatives Democratic Caucus. In that position, she has handled a variety of health care issues including: Medicaid, access to health care for uninsured people, individual and group health insurance reform, state purchasing of health care, health care liability and medical malpractice, patient safety, mental health, developmental disabilities and long term care. She has also handles human services, juvenile justice and corrections issues. From 1995 through 1998, Jane was the Washington State Medicaid director. Jane began her work in health law as an attorney with the American Bar Association Commission on Legal Problems of the Elderly [1981 to 1984], and as a legal services attorney in Tacoma, Washington [1984 to1988]. She is on the clinical faculty of the University of Washington School of Health Sciences and is a steering committee member with the National Academy for State Health Policy. Jane graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1981.
