Research has confirmed that there are a growing number of community-based interventions that can greatly assist people with serious mental illness and substance use disorders in recovery. These services and programs can help people reduce and manage symptoms, gain employment, and successfully maintain lives in their communities. However, many of these services are not readily available.
This five-year project, with funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and in partnership with Abt Associates and the National Association of State Medicaid Directors, focuses on increasing state policy maker awareness of behavioral health evidence-based practices, and developing tools to assist states in better utilizing Medicaid to support these practices. NASHP efforts include a comprehensive national survey of state Medicaid policy and evidence-based practices, implementation briefs and toolkits to assist state policy makers, and other materials.
